FAQs
The primary goal in windshield rock chip repair is to stop the rock chip from ever becoming a long crack. Taking this into consideration, the cosmetic results of each repair will vary depending on the type of chip being repaired, the length of time the rock chip has been there before repairing and any debris that may remain after repair, and many other factors. There will almost always be some evidence left from the original damage, but the repair technician will always put forth the effort to make the repair look as best as it can. Our warranty coverage does not include cosmetic dissatisfaction.
We definitely recommend you visit our photo galleries page to see the BeforeAfter photos we have of various sizes and severity of damage and what it looks like after the repair is completed. Be sure to zoom in on those photos to see how damage can look after it's repaired. In other words, this kind of service isn't for everyone because it will not look like brand new. But it is a safe, affordable solution to replacing your windshield when the damage eventually spread (and it eventually will).
The duration of an auto glass repair depends on the extent of the damage. Minor chips can often be repaired in as little as 30 minutes, while larger cracks might take a few hours. Our technicians work efficiently to minimize downtime and get you back on the road as soon as possible.
There are two main reasons we won't take the job in this scenario. One is because we warranty OUR work and we can no longer do that if others have worked on the damage. Two, once someone else has contaminated the damage with their resin (or whatever substance they erroneously were instructed to try to use), we can no longer successfully inject our resin because it's now blocked. You only have one true opportunity to perform a successful repair. We definitely recommend that you leave the repair attempt to us.
Unfortunately, rock chips can turn into cracks at any time so you definitely shouldn't procrastinate in booking an appointment with us. Aside from you successfully using a DIY kit bought at your local auto parts store (we can't stress enough why this is a bad choice and address our concerns in the previous FAQ above), everything we list below are things you can do to minimize the chance of spreading before our appointment.
First, do not use your defroster as heating the glass makes your windshield much more susceptible causing your rock chip to spread.
Second, try to park on a level surface. Parking at an angle will put stress on the windshield and possibly do more damage. Speaking of stress, when driving the vehicle with rock chip damage, you should try to avoid potholes or rough roads as the stressful jolt you may experience while running over a pothole can cause the damage to spread right then and there.
If the weather happens to be warmer (85 degrees+), you should consider leaving one of your side door windows slightly opened while parked to allow hot air to escape from the cabin. Not doing so can mean the air inside will get hotter and hotter. Hot air expands which may cause pressure to build on the windshield that could make your damage spread. In fact, in warmer conditions, try to park in the shade.
Lastly, avoid washing your windshield or using any Rain-X or similar product. This will leave residue in the chip and make it more visible after the repair.
